Famous Ballet Company

There are many famous ballet companies all over the world. A ballet company becomes famous because of its dancers and their reputation. A ballet company is generally a group of dancers who perform on a regular basis.

Famous Ballet Company

One of the most famous ballet company is from Russia. Many people have heard of the Bolshoi Ballet. The Bolshoi is famous for productions of Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker. Their style is known for the very dramatic pieces and they tend to do full length ballets. Famous ballet dancers who came from this school include Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky. Each of these dancers had a very dramatic and meticulous style of dance.

The Royal Ballet is another famous ballet company that follows the classic style. They are from London, England. There are three ballet companies in England and the Royal Ballet is the largest of the three. After they received a Royal Charter in 1956, they were promoted to "Britain's flagship national ballet company" (source Wikipedia). They are made up of 100 dancers each dancing at a different rank according to their skill level. They have principle dancers like Alexandra Ansanelli, Leanne Benjamin and Federico Bonelli.

The New York City Ballet is famous for performing classical, traditional and innovative ballets. Their ballet dancers learn to do a variety of dance and musical compositions with different styles. They offer both full length ballet and shorter dances. The New York City Ballet Company has a reputation for training its own dancers and creating their own work in addition to the traditional work they do. The company acts as a unit and there are no ballet dancers that come to the forefront as the most famous in this company.

Famous Ballet Dancers Past and Present

There are many ballet dancers who have become famous because of their ability to master ballet. Some are from the beginnings of ballet and some are newer. Both male and females have found their way into fame.

Anna Pavlova was a Russian ballerina from the late 19th and 20th Centuries. She is regarded as one of the most famous classical ballerinas. She is most famous for creating The Dying Swan role which she did en pointe for the entire performance.

Mikhail Baryshnikov is regarded as one of the most famous dancers of the 20th Century. He along with Rudolf Nureyev is regarded as a master of ballet. Baryshnikov is both a dancer and a writer of ballet. Today, he is working with other groups of dancers because he received a knee injury that stopped him from continuing on the stage. He is regarded as having a pure dance technique and being able to mesmerize audiences.

Gelsey Kirkland is a famous American female ballet dancer who danced as Clara in The Nutcracker with Mikhail Baryshnikov. Today, she is working with other dancers and has created a new version of The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky. Gelsey returned to the stage to dance within her production.
